I love this & I'm scared to read all of these, too. I started A Little Life and had to put it down, albeit so beautifully written.

would love to connect <3

I will start A Little Life at some point too, probably. Maybe. I don't know 😂

I'm not sure if I can make you feel less ridiculous (sorry!) but I don't think you are ridiculous at all! These are perfectly rational thoughts. I know the feeling, though I'm struggling to think of books I'm scared to read. I can tweak the question - there are authors I'm scared to read in case I like them so much that I feel compelled to read everything they wrote, and my TBR pile is already overflowing that I don't want anymore to add to it. Stephen King is a good example. I've just finished his memoir On Writing, which is brilliant, and now I want to read one of his books to see how he puts all that theory into practice. But what if I love it so much that I suddenly have 30-40 more books to read?

A Little Life is one I'm intrigued by, but mainly the length. I've read my fair share of doorstoppers, but these days, anything over 500 pages is pushing it.

Funny story about Nip/Tuck - when I first moved to Ukraine (Lviv) in 2005, I only had 4 TV channels and no internet at home. Sex and the City and Nip/Tuck were on every night and even though the dubbing was on top of the regular English, I could hear the English enough to watch them, and in my desperation I did so. I really got into Nip/Tuck, it was so addictive!

I think On Writing is brilliant as well. So much so that it also made me pick up his fiction. I only read Pet Sematary so far and liked it so-so. After looking through his (massive) list of books I'll also read The Long Walk and The Stand eventually because I think those are the ones I would most likely vibe with, and then I guess I'll decide if he's for me. Thanks for validating my ridiculous reasons by the way, I felt like I was being a bit extra :)) Also, love that Nip/Tuck story. The show WAS addictive, though I'm guessing the dubbing was kind of frustrating. I once tried to learn Italian by watching Grey's Anatomy dubbed and it was very, very weird.

Fahrenheit 451. My teacher friends have taught it and hyped it up so much, I'm afraid I won't see what they teach.

I don't like love stories, but I never wanted to touch bridges of Maddison county. I finally forced.myself to buy it for $1 at a library store. I loved it. So who knows

I haven't read Fahrenheit 451 either but it's on my list 🙂

I have been hesitating on A Little Life as well. I feel like I need to be in a really good headspace before I tackle it.

I've been looking at Robert Galbraith too but the massive lengths of his novels are intimidating.

Length sometimes intimidates me as well. I have a copy of Stephen King's The Stand and it seems massive.
