Was just regretting that I had let September, one of my favorite months, fly by me, so I really enjoyed "reliving" it through your experiences. 😅 And I had no idea book Will Trent has been watered down into TV Will Trent. I watch the show (mainly for Betty) but you've made me really interested in reading the books.
Glad you enjoyed the recap! In fairness, since I haven't seen the show, I don't know if he's been watered down, maybe he maintains the same spirit? I have no hate toward the actor or the adaptation, I just can't get myself to watch it bc I am so fond of the books. Since it airs on ABC, it makes sense for them to make change so the show can be appealing to a wider audience. The books are very graphic and disturbing, and most of the characters are dysfunctional, to say the least (even Will does problematic stuff). In other words, a faithful adaptation would be a lot to stomach on a weekly basis, and a better fit for the likes of streaming or HBO. Just mentioning all this as a warning, I guess, so you're not surprised by the tone if you decide to pick them up 😅 (Betty is a delight in the books so no worries there haha)
Thanks for that! I appreciate the warning, and if anything it just makes me more curious/eager to see what the books are like. The show can be a bit silly at times, so I assumed that all came from the books (for some reason I can stomach silly in shows better than in books), but it sounds like they've got an edge to them. And if nothing else, I might have to read them for Betty! 😂
I am SO glad you had a Sabrina Carpenter update. You are my only source of her goings-on, please keep me informed.
Did I ever ask you what you think of that song of hers, Taste? The first few times I heard it (usually in the supermarket, haha) I didn't know it was her, I thought it was a cover of "I Touch Myself" and I did some research (for 2-3 minutes) and it turns out I'm not the only one who thinks this. I was a Divinyls fan back in the day.
How long does it take you to compile all these links?
I'm a good decade older than you, and I can't remember what I was like with pop culture 10 years ago, but I barely recognise any of the music or serial stuff you mention. No idea who most of these artists are. I'm either way out of touch, or you are super in the loop. (Super in the loop...has a nice ring to it - super looper...)
Crazy that you had that super viral note (congrats!?!) and i didn't even notice it! How is that possible? Anyway, I am now the 2,921st like. 3K here we come!
SO glad you enjoyed the Sabrina sections!! I like Taste (if you're in the mood, the music video is awesome), never thought it sounded similar to I Touch Myself. Now that you've mentioned it, you may be on to something. She has a lot of '70s, '80s, and '90s influences in her songs.
As for the links, I don't know. For songs, I generally check my On Repeat Spotify playlist, see if there's enough there for bullets. I discover new music mostly through social media, sometimes I make valiant efforts to check reviews/charts to sample new artists, but not as often as I'd want. Movies and TV shows - I've written about the topic for years for work, so I have a background, and I still keep up (less religiously) because I genuinely love both mediums.
As for everything else, it comes from being chronically online. I try to jot down what caught my eye in Notes whenever it happens. Also, I started to watch more YouTube in an effort to watch less TikTok, lol.
The sad thing is that I'm not even super in the loop; I'm like medium in the loop. Being super in the loop nowadays is a full-time job, because there is so much going on and audiences are more fragmented than ever. But I'm into pop culture, so at least attempting to be in the loop brings me joy 😊 You're out of touch, I have free time (in the style of Daryl Hall & John Oates).
Screaming about TVD book and need to get my hands on a copy immediately. I know it was for the plot, but I will never understand why Stefan didn't simply.. create a fake second letter to give Caroline and am salivating to finally know what it said!
Also cannot WAIT for you to watch The Long Walk when it becomes available.
I recommend the audio if you're into that type of thing, it has a full voice cast and is a delight to listen to. they start with the idea/casting process and talk about each season, highlighting certain scenes. Also I can't wait to see The Long Walk, from everything I've read about it should be right up my alley 😊

my biggest takeaway from this is that you MUST watch severance, it’s soooooooooo good ❤️
I will!! Feel like such an outsider 😅
bonus is that you don’t have to wait 3 years between season 1 and 2 hehe
Cheers to the little things 💃
