“The fact that she’ll read this in five to twenty business days and blush is the cherry on top.“
Yup that’s me too 🫣😳 sorry I’m over a month late to wish you a happy birthday!!
You know what they say about November birthdays? A very good Valentine’s Day 😇
Swap from Goodreads to The StoryGraph: woman developer and not associated with evil mega corporations, can transfer your data, there’s a pause function for books you’re not currently reading, you get to choose how you track your reading (per minute, page, day, week etc), journaling and buddy read features, etc
I feel ereaders make it easier because there’s a progress bar, so not as easy to get that positive reinforcement with a physical book
You do have a niche, and it is relatable - random musings from a woman trying to cope in an overwhelmingly chaotic world. We’re all struggling and finding solace in that is important.
Thank you for the good wishes and the lovely comment!! It made my day, I’m glad you find my stuff relatable. Connection is what matters, something I occasionally lose sight of when I get frustrated by metrics, so ty for reminding me. Also StoryGraph sounds cool, will check it out. And one thing I like about Substack/newsletters is that content has a longer shelf life compared to other social media. Whether you read 5 min after I publish or 46 days later, I am just very happy you’re here 🥰
46 days later is so weirdly specific!! 😂 in reality I just want to give your posts my full attention, so wait until school holidays when I have the time to process, appreciate and respond!
Yesss, like let Veronica have a shred of happiness wtf. Also, 100 books? That's impressive!! I only managed that once. I always put 50 and end up reading around 70-80, but I'm currently stuck at 46, lol. A tough year indeed. Good luck to us both 🫶
I must respectfully disagree with you saying this roundup is boring - not at all. I love these roundups and I could probably comment on over half the points you've made (but shan't - I will be disciplined and focus on a few)
1 Goodreads - why not just stay off it? I have my share of TBR struggles, existential angst, worrying about dying before I can read everything, and though I went onto Goodreads and put a bunch of crap in there, I haven't looked at it since and I can't be bothered. I just write everything down in my journals.
2 That Sophie Gilbert book sounds really interesting, I've added it to my TBR. I read a few Atlantic writers and I've read a lot of her articles over the years.
3 As you know, I'm not much of a TV watcher - I don't think I've ever watched a reboot. If I have, I don't recall. I loved Scrubs when it came out and I watched the first few seasons before I left the US and never got back into it. Once I started with my masters in 2002, my TV watching days started coming to an end with all the moving I was doing.
4 Now that previous point? That was boring!
5 I hear you on the Substack disillusionment, but I don't let it get me down - we're all playing a different game, different goals, all that. You're one of my favourite things about Substack, your notes are a consistent highlight of my day and I'm sure others feel the same - keep at it!
This comment is so nice, Daniel, thank you!! 🥹 And thank you for saying this isn't boring, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Though you did spell favorite weird, might want to double check.
Anyway, the first seasons of Scrubs are the best, so you didn't miss out on much by not keeping up with the later years. About Goodreads, I have my TBR there and the reviewers who match my taste, which is why I stayed on for so long. However, writing everything down in journals, as you do, is becoming more appealing by the minute. The Girl on Girl book is detailed and well-written, so I would recommend if you want to dig into the topic.
Finally, thanks again for the comment, it put a big smile on my face. I’m really glad we stumble upon each other on here!! ♥️

Works for me!! ☺️
I will never get over the way they ruined Veronica Mars because they thought she couldn't be compelling if she was in love and happy, lmao.
Also really loved the Daydreams and am rushing to finish my Goodreads goal (I set it for 100 books, why?!).
This year has been tough, but we're almost done with it! I hope the holidays go well.
