I have seen people gush over Workhorse and I refuse to pick it up because it's sooooo long!

I don't mind long books when there's a reason, but I still haven't discovered said reason yet 🙈

High five from another avid watcher of Last Week Tonight.

And this month I've also given the fabled "Heated Rivalry" a go. Just as I've heard, it was dirty, full of sex-scenes, absolutely lowest form of entertainment, who even watches such garbage?!

(Hint: Me. Oops. I have binge-watched it quite possibly without blinking. Wasn't convinced at first, for me it was a bit too much too soon, but then the slow-burn has truly started, and I was sold. Hm, objectively, that was a peculiar sentence, but I stand by my observations.)

Your comment made me laugh 😂 I had to suffer through weekly releases but will probably binge-rewatch it at some point.

So much to unpack here - I'll keep it short:

* Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl - skipped it. I love (american) football and my team was playing (they lost). I haven't watched a halftime show probably since the late 90s, I skip them all, I'm such a football nerd, can't be distracted by music! (though I've since seen the entire Katy Perry and Lady Gaga shows thanks to my daughter)

* James Van Der Beek - Dawson's Creek came out my final year of university and my housemates and I loved it (no shame in admitting). But I never watched past that first season, not sure why. Have you seen Varsity Blues? Whether you like football or not, James was brilliant in that, this is my enduring memory of him.

* Bleachers! Still occasionally listening to the Merry Christmas song (thanks?), this new one is good, maybe it'll grow on me more. I'm sure you've seen 'Tiny Moves' video.

On serious note - I wish there were a solution for this screen addiction thing and that late night scrolling. This may sound funny, but I once tried to scroll through some TikToks and Instagram Reels and I just couldn't find anything that appealed to me. I was trying to understand what grabs people and thankfully I'm immune to it. I wish it were as simple as saying, "put the devices away!" but I know it's hard. Can you install apps that lock you out of your phone after a certain amount of time?

That wasn't so short (sorry)

Have not seen Varsity Blues and there is obviously no shame in liking Dawson's Creek, it's iconic for a reason 😊 I know Tiny Moves, also bc of the video with Margaret, but I'm otherwise not that familiar with Bleachers. Keep saying I'll fix that since I like all the songs I do know but haven't gotten a chance yet. And the devices, I have no answers. The algorithm learns what you like the more you scroll, which makes it trickier to not engage with time. Also tbh it's not about the content either, it's a form of escape in my case, so when I'm down and don't want to think about my issues, it's like putting on a bandaid. I'm back to less scrolling though, which is good, but I know there will be ups and downs. The apps I tried to limit my screen time don't work for me. Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts!! 🤗

Do go back and check out early Bleachers, they have some great tunes. Were you a fan of Fun, Jack Antonoff’s previous band?

I totally get it with the scrolling and it being an escape. My thoughts are from the perspective of a caring friend trying to understand more clearly. If there’s ever anything I can do - maybe? - don’t be shy about reaching out. We all have our vices and ways of escape, I suppose I’m just lucky that I can use books to do so, but let’s not kid ourselves, they aren’t always ‘better’ or ‘healthier’ than digital stuff, especially when I spend too much time reading instead of doing what needs to be done, and inevitably putting off my anxiety and stress to another day.

Thank u!! Yeah, everyone likely has something, whether it's short vids or reading or video games. And I don't think that's bad in moderation, but finding that elusive balance is the tricky part. I just checked and this week I'm under 3 hours total for tiktok and instagram, as I said, ups and downs. Anyway I only know the one popular Fun song, but I will check out early Bleachers! 😊

btw, totally random fun fact - in the Fun video ‘We Are Young’, that guy playing the piano actually came to my wedding, believe it or not. He’s not in the band, though he does look like the pianist they worked with. His wife (at the time, now divorced) was university friends with my ex.

That is a fun fact!!

Rooting for you! It's neither a sprint nor a marathon. It's not a race. It's a journey.

Thank you!!

"I'll give it another go," is very relatable and pretty much my mantra.

What else is there to do, really 🙈

cowboy like me is one of taylor's most underrated songs! i always say i'm a 1989 girl at my core but i really do think i'm an evermore enthusiast.

also that rejection is their loss. i thought your piece was fun!
