Antony Starr kills it as Homelander 😤 They can keep snubbing him but he is the streets' emmy winner

Agreed on Nolan, its very easy to poke fun at his style, but he's one of the few directors left who can consistently churn out blockbusters. The Odyssey, as it pains me to admit, was a great film. Even with Agamemnon looking like Batman

He did kind of look like batman. Though you have to admit that the scene where he enters Troy is pure aura 😂 thank u for reading!

i was so burnt out on the is this thing on trailer by the time it reached theaters but you've inspired me to track it down and give it a try.

it surprised me how bummed i was about jack and margaret. i just want love to be real!!

still cannot get over how the main takeaway from the odyssey has been matt damon's hotness hahaha

i was going to ask what your least favorite month is but saw your reply to maddie and while i'm a january baby, completely agree that it's overrated!

Alexandra's avatar

I think I would like January more if I had a birthday. Mine is in November, after Halloween, then it’s Christmas, and then I basically have nothing to look fw to anymore, which probably contributes to the gloom, lol. I was surprised by how bummed I was about Jack and Margaret too, honestly, I didn’t think I was that invested but your point is valid - I just want love to be real!!

Bre's avatar

okay that’s so valid. it’s fine now but it was definitely a bummer as kid when it was cold outside and my birthday party options were limited to like, ice skating or snow tubing

August is also one of my least favorite months but now I'm wondering what your most least favorite month is?

Also I love this monthly recap and read the entire thing word-for-word. <3

Alexandra's avatar

Thank you, so glad you enjoy! <3 My least fave month is January. It tricks you into smelling a fresh start for a second, then it goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on until you lose your will to live.

Maddie's avatar

Totally understandable! For me it's February for a lot of the same reasons!

Alexandra's avatar

Makes sense because in February you become sick of winter, in August you become sick of summer 😅

Another banger!

My comments and observations:

1 You crack me up when you say "I guess I’m old-school, but I hate the fact that we’ve reached a point where every single thing we say or do can end up online at a moment’s notice" - you think you're old-school? At least you're aware that this type of thing exists. I'm so old-school that never in a million years would I even consider the possibility that this silly type of thing could happen. What kind of world is this?

2 Have you seen The Beast in Me? (Netflix) - I just finished it last night, it was good. That's my in-depth review.

3 Happy to see Wordle get a mention

4 Audiobooks - I've tried and tried and just can't. Sometimes it's the voices that get me (my misophonia/extreme noise sensitivity means some voices just grate and once I hear it, I can't unhear it). I made another attempt recently - The Memory Police - and though it seems a good book, my mind wanders and I lose focus.

5 My days of music festivals - and even concerts - are probably at an end. And have been for a while. In 2011, I went to one day of Sziget in Budapest and halfway through the day I was beat, sat off to the side of one of the stages drinking coffee. By the time the day was done I was barely alive, totally worn out.

6 My daughter asked me today how many Spiderman films there are and I said, a lot, I think 7 or 8, but holy moly there are now...11? Why so many? What's going on? I've only seen one, the Tobey Maguire one. Is it the same story over and over? I'm confused, I can't keep up!

7 I have 6-7 (haha) tabs open from this post which I will now check out.

Thank you!! Your comments are always such fun <3

1. I'm just happy I did high school and my 20s before tiktok, I cannot imagine.

2. I have not. I don't watch a lot of Netflix. Downgraded to the cheapest tier which only allows one stream at a time and my mom watches a lot of it 😂

3. Glad you are pleased.

4. They don't work for everyone, I tried to convert a friend and was unsuccessful. Also, if the narrator is annoying, it takes me out too. That's why I'm struggling with one of the audiobooks. It hasn't happened in a while, though. My mind wanders sometimes as well, I like to listen while I do stuff like chores or walk or color, helps me focus better.

5. I have never been a festival person, and I can't imagine becoming one now. These concerts were to celebrate the city and they were free and outside, however, had to take advantage, but the heat was disgusting and I was on my feet all day. By the time I made it to bed, everything hurt. That said, I don't want to ever stop attending concerts - they're just so fun and the energy is infectious.

6. There are 3 Tobey movies, 2 Andrew Garfield movies, 4 Tom Holland movies now, and 2 animated movies. Probably why the term superhero fatigue became a thing 😂 Spider-Man is the most popular superhero from what I know, they can't help it.

7. Hope you enjoyed the side quests 😁

The Beast in Me - I mentioned this because…I want to avoid any potential spoilers here so I must be vague…something happens in it that relates to something else you talked about.

My concert days might not be over - I’d still love to go to one, I just rarely get the opportunity. Bands I like don’t come to Vienna much. And when they do, tickets aren’t cheap, especially for a broke struggling writer/teacher like me. The last show I was tempted by was Smashing Pumpkins with Interpol in support (it would’ve been my first time seeing the Pumpkins, but I’ve seen Interpol 4 times, including at that 2011 Sziget Festival) but it was close to 100 euros, and in a so-so venue. I’m old…back in the day I was going to small gigs of my favourite bands in 500 capacity venues for no more than 20 euros. Plus, all the cameras these days! Yikes…it used to lighters people held up, maybe a few people taking a quick photo, but now everyone’s on their damn phones from what I can tell.

Alexandra's avatar

Prices are pretty insane yes, you have to be more selective. When I worked as a journalist in my early 20s I went to everything because I didn't have to pay. Salary was crap but I this is the one perk I miss most 😅 Also people vape more nowadays, lighters are less common. I'll watch The Beast in Me when I have a chance, ty!

Wondering the same about Matt Damon

I hope Christopher Nolan is happy about it 😂

Just another step in his long career of confusing millennials

In a just world Antony Starr would have an Emmy by now.

Awesome update!

-Do agree that Nolan needs to do a horror movie, especially after the Circe scenes, but what I'd like him to do more is The Silmarillion with this cast. There's so many near-direct equivalent characters.

And yeah Feige...eh. There's literally an Infinity Stone in the first Captain America movie, Thanos is the looming threat in both Thor and the first Avengers. He was established, Doom is not beyond in the lazy modern Star Wars way of "hey! remember the guy?"

Alexandra's avatar

Thank you!! And yes, Thanos and the Infinity Stones were a part of the story from early on. I'm sure Doom is a big deal in the comics but they seem over-reliant on viewers who don't read comics understanding that, lol.

charles222a203's avatar

Also "he's a big deal in the comics" (which he is) is just lazy for the reason you cited.
